Well if it wasn't quite obvious already, I like to write. If I ever focus on something, I love writing about it. From the general bits and pieces of life put into the form of a blog, to a homage of a series like nothing anyone in the world has seen, to a masterpiece of an original work to dazzle the world. Yes, I do indeed enjoy writing... but it's not as easy as I can sometimes make it seem.
For years, I wasn't all that good of a writer. I loved to read, but I hard-pressed to do much good writing. The fact that my handwriting is absolutely atrocious does not help in the slightest, and actually discouraged me for a good long while. It took until my high school years for me to really start writing anything that wasn't for an assignment, and a couple more years to really find my own writing style and really start to hone my craft. Now, I don't claim to be a perfect writer, nobody is. But with confidence, I can say I'm good at what I do.
Of course, this blog is currently the only thing I have had the guts to show to the world, because even with my confidence, not many of my rough drafts make it past the rough draft stage at all. Despite my easy-goingness in real life, I'm rather picky when it comes to my own work, wanting it to be exactly to the high standards I hold myself to for this sort of thing. Grammar, spelling, and conveying the message are all rather tricky. However, I have my computer's help with the first two, but it's the third that the tricky one.
Conveying your message, especially in a clever way, is one of the hardest parts to writing. Take a classic story like The Tortoise and The Hare. It was a very clever way to show a simple message: don't be overconfident in yourself, and never underestimate someone by their looks. And, even better, there are hundreds of ways to tell the story, making extra lessons and messages easier to add.
But what does this contribute to my self-improvement, you may ask? Well, this is my hobby, but maybe one day I can turn it into a career. I would be thrilled if that did happen, naturally, but also, it's part of this- a way to communicate. A way to give the world my thoughts, to chat to others online, to write emails and texts, and to do practically anything that involves the art of writing.
Sorry that I haven't posted in a while, I was busy with a brand new job. I promise to get back to doing it every Friday! Until then, search for your take on everything, and send me your ideas for what I should talk about next.
