Crafty's Take On: Taxes

Published on 14 April 2024 at 12:51

If you actually find someone who likes having to pay a chunk of their hard-earned money which then just seems to disappear off the face of the Earth, please let me know. Taxes are what I would call a necessary evil- something we need for our modern society to function, but is disliked for good reason. It's kinda like using mold to make blue cheese- you'd rather not have to make food using mold, but you want blue cheese. (Which by the way, is an underrated cheese.) Taxes are the mold of our blue cheese of a country. Which sounds weird when I say it, but it's really true.

Of course, not to say doing taxes is that difficult anymore. We have applications like TurboTax to help us calculate what we owe and what math we would have otherwise been forced to do. I myself just did taxes last week, and it only took about a half hour. Naturally, a few hiccups with the application itself made it go longer, but most of that was my fault. The part that really took the longest was getting myself to do the darn taxes in the first place.

While taxes are not difficult to do, they are rather tedious, something I personally hate. Of course, it's important to do your taxes, especially the first few years when you aren't making that much money, and the government will actually send you money in return for filing. Then they take the money you paid them and put it into dozens of government expenses and projects, often not going very far. The 'taxpayer money' that goes in never gets far, but it slowly chips away at every budget in the country.

Honestly, I don't have anything against taxes. They're important, they are tedious, and those are just facts of life. So, even though I think our government could do things to improve that cost nothing, it's still important to do taxes. For many reasons, although the threat of being arrested for tax evasion is a good incentive for most people to get their act together by tax season.

Writing Update: Planning stages are going slow, but the concept is laid out for the most part. Maybe by next post I'll have at very least a working title for you all!
