Lights! Camera! ACTION! Cinema, more commonly known as movies and television. Since their invention, these glorious moving pictures and recorded scenes have captivated humanity's attention. A method to tell stories, to share information, to serve as a creative outlet for the whole world to see. And there are dozens of ways to make cinema, in hundreds of styles. While I am no expert on cinematography, I understand enough to have a clear-cut take on the subject.
Cinematography is a wider subject than most people realize. Most people think it just pertains to movies, but it also fits any recording in general. High-class TV dramas. Goofy Saturday morning cartoons. Video game tutorials. Live streams. All of these contain bits of the cinematographic art, and a lot of the central principles apply to it. Many people strive too hard to go for what is 'popular', only for it to bomb in the box office or get next to no views. It's difficult for many to actually find what works, hence why a lot of people congregate in California to make movies. (That, and the weather here is fantastic.)
Not to say that following trends is a bad idea. To a degree, following certain trends and tropes is very important, vital even. But letting it interrupt your creative process for the sake of making money will only hurt your piece of cinema. Of course, it's a fine balance. Finding what people like and combining that with your own ideas is difficult, and you can apply that to most forms of art and even most businesses. But the mark of great artists, writers, moviemakers and businessmen is learning to overcome hurdles like those, and become better because of it.
However, it doesn't take a true professional to make something great. There are plenty of options for you to learn this skill, both in live-action and in animation. I know several amateurs in the art of cinematography, and their works look very good if a little rough around the edges. Animators cover every inch of the Internet, and streamers are part of the crew as well, creating hilarious live content for us to enjoy.
Speaking of streaming, my Twitch is very close to getting started! I have the character set up, OBS is nearly set up in the right way, all I need to get started is time... which I have less of than I'd like to play games. But whatever! It's mostly set up anyhow.
So, go make some movie magic! That, or just watch some TV. Study it a little closer, next time. Find something new in it you haven't seen before.
